AdeptEdit Services
AdeptEdit's goal is to help you communicate even the most complex scientific or technical information in clear, accurate, concise and fluent English, and so assist in having your work accepted for publication or presentation, and professionally recognized.
We understand that acceptability of scientific and technical knowledge is not just dependent on the quality of information, but how well it is written.
Whether your document simply needs checking for minor errors or requires substantial editing to achieve a superior standard of clarity and presentation, AdeptEdit's service will meet your needs. As our editorial staff are all PhD scientists, your document benefits from their professional technical knowledge as well as their science editing and publication experience.
Services Provided [Top]
Copy Editing
We ensure your manuscript or other document is correct in its usage of English, logical and consistent, clear and concise, and effective in communicating your data, findings and ideas. This involves:
- correcting spelling, punctuation and grammar
- verifying that usage of style conventions, abbreviations, capitalization and scientific/technical terminology is correct, consistent and appropriate
- querying content where the meaning is ambiguous, not clear or where discrepencies are identified
- recommending alterations to improve clarity, expression and presentation
- suggesting changes to make content more easily readable and comprehensible
- cross checking in-text and reference list citations
- confirming figures and tables are cited in text, and that legends and content are intelligible
- ensuring compliance with specified publication formats, where requested
Re-Editing and Proofreading
Where appropriate, authors may ask for re-editing or proofreading of manuscripts or documents previously copy edited by AdeptEdit. This will usually occur where:
- the original copy editing identified ambiguities or uncertainties in meaning/interpretation which needed clarification;
- significant change was recommended to make content more readable and comprehensible, or;
- the author wants a final editing check prior to submission or to have galleys proofread against originals.

- You may subsequently wish to submit your document for re-editing or proofreading. If so, please return to step (3).
Turnaround Times For Services [Top]
For documents of less than 10,000 words we offer a standard or express service. The standard service has a turnaround time (from receipt of document to return to author) of 6 business days. For clients requiring a more rapid turnaround time, our express service can have your document returned in 2-5 days.
For larger documents, which attract a discount, we will negotiate a mutually satisfactory turnaround time with you.

How We Edit [Top]
Documents sent to us are edited in a three-stage process. The editor initially overviews the content, layout and structure, style, flow and consistency. In the second stage the editor makes copy editing corrections to the text, as outlined above (see Copy Editing). The edited document is read a third time for quality control purposes, then returned to you.
We accept documents prepared in most word processing applications and sent as an email attachment (see Submit a Document). We will also accept documents that are faxed to us or sent by mail.
We prefer documents prepared in Microsoft Word as this application enables both the editor and author to easily track revisions of the document. On receipt of the edited version the author can choose to see the document only in its returned (edited) form, or can view and consider the changes made during the editing process against the original text. Where an editor has queried an ambiguity and/or suggested clarifying comments in the text, the author can accept, reject or correct the changes as necessary.
AdeptEdit provides detailed instructions on tracking revisions (termed 'Track Changes') and other relevant processes in Microsoft Word when edited documents are returned to the author.
What We Don't Do [Top]
AdeptEdit fully guarantees the quality of the editing services it offers. We edit for readability, clarity, coherence and correctness. We do not make unnecesary changes and we aim to retain the author's writing style.
Responsibility for the structure, scientific or technical content and validity, logic, interpretation and conclusions remains with the author. However, because we have high levels of scientific and technical expertise we may draw the author's attention to issues of scientific or technical content.
We do not assess the scientific or technical merit of documents we edit, and do not guarantee acceptibility in these areas.
While all care is taken during receipt and transmission of documents, AdeptEdit does not take responsibility for any technical problems which may occur during these processes.
